I'm with Dino. Have a family chat and agree to dispense with buying any gifts. Coming together as a family with a nice meal and a couple of bottles of wine should be enough.
I also detest commercial occasions like Christmas, Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day etc. Just rubbish. Much nicer to take mum a bunch of flowers out of the blue, just because you love her, rather than when it's prescribed by some crap commercial occasion.
