I am still trying to work out what the advantage to the Gillars Govt if McClelland quits and there is a need for a bye election? The Government would be one member down. The Opposition as I have said previously does not have to provide a pair (btw pairing a convention not a rule or right). I know that it has agreed to provide a pair if Craig Thomson wants to be Melbourne in next week and appear in the Melbourne Magistrate's court.
If the Speaker doesnt accede to a bye election if McClelland resigns what is the advantage to the Government?
