Call it whinging, if you want, but I prefer managements that inform the market as close in time as possible. Not always possible, but in this case it would have been.

And if they fail to do so for any reason, fess up and apologize in a proper manner, instead of starting to disassemble like a 5 year old with chocolate around the mouth who tells his mother that it was the little sister who done it.
