Chongqing Steel May Invest in Australia Mine, Evening News Says

Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Chongqing Iron & Steel Group is in talks to acquire an Australian iron ore project, Chongqing Evening News reported, citing the company.

The project has long-term reserves of 3 billion metric tons of iron ore, the government-run newspaper said. The Chongqing municipal government led the talks with Australian counterparts, the newspaper said, without giving more details.

Chongqing Steel imports 4 million tons of iron ore a year from Australia and Brazil, the report said. Calls to state-owned Chongqing Steel were not immediately answered.
