My advice (from the real world) is to swallow as much pride as possible and keep it amicable. Keep the lines of communication open if possible. Be fair (no fault divorce) and avoid the lawyers.
We did ours ourselves, we both turned up in court and she then left my life for good (thankfully). Don't forget that the decree nisi takes one year to come through after the divorce is granted.
