boilermaker days - steel caps were the thing and often the leather on the cap was worn away leaving bare metal.
one chap got his mate to hold down some steel with his foot - had a bit of scrap so told him to "watch your eyes" (weld flash) and whilst doing so welded the scrap to the beam then to the cap of his boot. well welding something becomes pretty wram so when it started heating up he was trapped and struggled like hell to get his boot off.
