Whats the strategy with ETFs?

I understand ETFs are a pool of investment securities, often tracking the index, however what's your strategy with ETFs? Keen to know your why?

Are you in VAS purely for the dividends or a mixture of both distributions and SP movement?

My understanding is dividends were paid out at approx 7.7% this year, this this correct?

Do ETFs have an ex-dividend date or is it too complex due to the amount of stocks paying divies at different stages? Is dividend capture strategy possible with ETFs?
