I confess, I have only just started tracking AOG. That does give me the advantage of the fresh impression. Don't laugh. Often the first impression gives a solid reading on a person or situation because the nuances and complexities do not confuse the overall impact.
So, I looked at Morningstar. Wow, they give a fantastic yield and PE, I need to put this on my watch list and start understanding the company before committing. Yes I was already aware of their PR disaster last year around contracts but I am a contrarian by inclination. Decided to let things settle a bit back then while I am a bit reticent with real estate companies at present (which at the end of the day is the core business for these retirement home businesses).
Today I read the presentation for their Half Year Report. I could not believe that a company would give such a cluttered presentation. 89 pages of Powerpoint, each slide with many lines of statements. How not to involve an audience. They overwhelmed with detail. I did not want all the ins and outs. I wanted an overall assessment of the business.
This probably reflects their approach in general. Confuse the audience and the clients. Give the client 50 pages of contract to read and then a place to sign? Blast the investors with many lines of statements and trust they feel embarassed about asking the hard questions?
Well, I will persist and spend more time watching and reading, but if a company cannot address its shareholders in a sensible manner then are they going to manage the business effectively or get blinded in their own detail while the rest of the world passes by?
