Esso says it will learn from a recent oil spill at its Cobia offshore platform in the Bass Strait.
About 750 litres of oil leaked from the Cobia pipeline into the Bass Strait last month but Esso says there was no environmental damage.
Environment groups say the spill is proof that Esso's offshore infrastructure is becoming faulty, which could lead to further spills.
Esso's Chris Welberry says the platform, about 70 kilometres offshore from Longford and about 30 years old, will remain closed until investigations are complete.
Any one know if Cobia is back in production.
