Lest anyone think I am a Liberal stooge, I have worked for all sides of politics. I think that the election of Gillard is a farce of the highest order.
Couple of things to note about Gillard.
- She is from the left of the Labor Party. The left is the minority of the Labor party. I'm not sure what the exact percentages are but it's maybe 35-40% to the left, and the rest to the right, centre right.
- She has shown herself not just to be from the left, but the socialist left (fabian society etc)
- Gillard is a careerist politician having worked for the union movement and then entered a career in politics (like 80% of the labor party).
Coup;e of things to note about the left of the labor party:
- The socialist left are not the bedfellow of business. Quite the opposite. They focus leftist issues like "rights" and don't have much of an economic understanding (hence why you will never see left leaning treasurers in any labor government).
- They don't have the numbers when it comes to the crunch. The NSW labor party thought they could also put a more electorally palatable premier in (aka nathan rees), and look what a farce that turned out to be. He had no power to enact his policies. Gillard will find herself in the same position, without doubt.
So to the personal.
I'm not one for accents of any sort, but most people in the union movement cultivate a worker's accent. Gillard is no exception. The nasal twang. The I'm a worker, look at me I can talk like a blue collar worker. Do NOT BE FOOLED. Most left leaning labor people are white collar people, who went to top universities, studied law and developed a social conscience. They have little practical experience in running business and contributing constructively to the economy.
I find that electing a PM in this manner, not by an electorate, is the highest farce of all, and shows the Labor Party to be the absolute gutless wonder they are. Let's do a poll. Who is the most popular. Oh she's a redhead. Oh she's a woman. People relate to her. Oh my god.
And to the impact on the stockmarket
- Short term. Let's play consensus builder "I'll work with the mining industry. I'll listen". To that, I say "so what?" You've never worked in a business. You don't know the pressures that business have to turn a $, particularly in the mining industry. This will turn into shit.
- I'm prepared to work with the business. I'm not just a union puppet. I mean seriously. Australian Workers Union president Paul Howes, who was advocating the mining tax on behalf of the labor government, says a couple of days ago, that the ALP is not the party of unionist stooges, and don't play to the unionist movement, but it's revealed yesterday that:
"However, around 6pm, as news of a push was growing, Howes was shown internal ALP polling that showed the government was facing wipeout in NSW. Howes and Ludwig jumped into action and threw their support behind Gillard. This galvanised the Right nationally."

Seriously this is farcical.
Why am I writing this on HC. I needed to vent my spleen. I just don't believe the hype.
To my reasoning, Gillard is way worse than Rudd to the economic stability of this country, and all of us on the HC thread, are about economic stability. Vote with your thumbs.
