Putting that aside, higher GST rate will hurt the lower income group. There are certain essentials of life that we all (rich and poor) have to spend our money on.

On the point of the GST revenue all going to the states, there is nothing to stop the federal government legislating for, say, 2 % GST increase, and that 2% will stay with the federal government.

I am against raising the GST % for reason explained.

People in the lower income group spend a large proportion of their disposable income than those om higher income. Any increase in GST % will impact more on them athen on the rich.

Tony Abbott is right in saying than people on high income should significantly bear the burden of the extra tax obligation.

The one thing I will say though is that instead of the devt levy starting from $80,000 threshold, it is better if it is $100,000.

I would not consider $80,000 as high income.
