The way as I see it, as a tax payer I will pay increased tax because of the GST and welfare payments will increase to cover the cost of GST, so in effect I pay more tax and no jobs are created. I have no problem paying a small levy/tax to reduce the debt but then something must be put in place to stop the debt getting to this level again. I'm not sure about your assertion that the people with the most disposable income would pay the most. It is the highest spenders that pay the most, and if we curb spending we reduce the tax that is collected.
