My friend had a good portfolio (he didn't have a margin loan) until his financial adviser Jim told him to take advantage of price fall by taking out a margin loan (to "average down"). He wiped out $900,000 despite gearing was only 65% (75% max into bluechip stocks eg BHP, CBA, WBC)... during GFC. 65% gearing into big 4 banks suppose to be saver than 90% gearing into houses... BUT NOT THE CASE.

IMHO stay away from margin loan, especially investing in mid-size to small companies.

4 things from the ann't that let me sleep at night (rightly or wrongly)1-no impact on f/y 2016 2- if any in 2017 3 -if implemented 4- $1000-$5000= small change ,actually i have 5- would have to get through their parliment and if its anything like the numpies in ours it has buckleys chance
