G'day Karlene, could not agree more and especially regarding emotional involvement. It comes down to risk - whether individuals have a high or low tolerance to risk and that they use that knowledge as part of their own investment decisions. Investing / trading on the stock market (especially in mining or any speculative / non discretionary spending type company stocks) is not for the faint hearted, fearful or impatient in my opinion.
