Wheat up over night to $6.27 up from $6.13. Remember this was at $4.50 only a month ago.
There is still room to move and with it, fertilizer prices.
"CHICAGO, July 29 (Reuters) - U.S. wheat prices kept climbing on Thursday, posting a fresh 13-month peak closing in on the biggest monthly gain since 1973 as relentless drought stressed crops in eastern Europe, especially in third-largest global exporter Russia.
Corn and soybeans also rose for a second straight day following the surging wheat market.
Wheat received an extra boost from a much larger-than-expected number for wheat in Thursday's U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) export sales report.
U.S. wheat export sales last week hit a six-week high at 919,000 tonnes even as prices soared amid concerns that drought will decimate the crop in Russia and curb its exports, traders said.
"It was a major surprise," said grains analyst Joe Victor of Allendale Inc in McHenry County, Illinois, of wheat sales.
USDA's weekly export sales report said the sales last week, which were more than double trade estimates ranging from 300,000 to 400,000 tonnes, were up 141 percent from the prior week.
It could be the start of a trend where importers who typically rely on wheat supplies from the Black Sea region switch to shop in the United States, Victor said.
"Importers are not shopping closer to home," he said, pointing out Morocco's tender on Wednesday to buy 140,000 tonnes of durum wheat from the United States.
Wheat futures at the Chicago Board of Trade for September were up 11 cents at $6.26-1/2 per bushel after setting a fresh 13-month top at $6.32.
September delivery corn was up 6 cents at $3.82-1/4 and August soy was up 9-1/4 at $10.19-3/4.
Traders said the rally showed signs of continuing, although analysts observed stocks built up over the last two years of the largest global wheat harvests in history should ensure sufficient supplies.
The International Grains Council confirmed on Thursday the global wheat crop would fall from last year, but noted it would still be the third biggest crop on record.
Wheat is on course for a 33 percent gain in July, which would be its biggest monthly gain since August 1973.
In February 2008, during the height of a global panic about food supplies that drove up prices across the grains and oilseeds complex, front-month wheat rose to a record high above $13 a bushel.
In France, Europe's top wheat producer, benchmark milling wheat futures opened at fresh contract highs on prospects of tighter supplies from Russia to the export market.
Traders and market analysts' continued to focus on updated weather forecasts for Europe and America and were awaiting final results on Thursday from a tour this week from a tour of U.S. spring wheat fields and on Friday fresh production data will be released by Canada."
