Wheatbelt hides iron targets From: PerthNow March 10, 2010 8:58AM IRON ore strikes over WA's south-eastern region have been identified as targets by Perth-based explorer Magnetic Resources.
It has announced new targets that bring the total strike length to 188km.
More than 94 per cent has been completed of a 3480sq.km high-resolution aeromagnetic survey of its tenements which run from Wubin to Kulin.
The survey, which covers 16,280 line kilometres, included the recent targets for Sewell, Wubin, Dalwallinu, Jubuk and Quairading.
Magnetic said it was talking to rail authorities and experts in respect to possible iron ore operations using existing railway networks close to its tenements and targets.
``These are early stage discussions yet Magnetic anticipates positive outcomes,'' the company said in a statement to the ASX.
``New data has ben received which hs added to the targets identified so far.
``The new targets total 23km in length, with the most significant targets situated on the southern end of the Sewell project area.'' This area is about Jitarning, south-west of Kulin.
``One of the Sewell magnetic targets in particular exhibits complex folding and thickening of hinge zones that could provide a favourable environment for iron-ore formation,'' Magnetic said.
``These targets range from just 1km to 18km north of the Kulin-Narrogin railway line.''
Magnetic said it was encouraged by the results and had started field work to follow up and assess the target areas for both magnetite and direct shipping ore.
