From Mongolia's perspective thermal coal is valuable. It is used in electricity production and the Chinese will buy it from there. It's cheaper for them, and Mongolia will shape as a threat to Australia's thermal coal exports. Good thing it will be Aussie companies doing the selling.
From a coking coal perspective, the higher Australian grade is more preferable in making steel. The Chinese will still look to ours first and supplement with Mongolian coking.
