You will know it's connected when the ship has much tighter movements of around 3mts in any direction and it will start to form an arc over time as the wind changes direction and the ship follows...the arc is formed because the transponder is at the front of the boat and the the drilling Derrick is around the middle of the boat ...I've attached a diagram of the stena's current track and below that another drillship that is actively drilling and have put a red circle approximately where the drilling Derrick or the well head would be...the NAO Horizon is beside it currently providing eyes for the Stena with its ROV, it's black down there in a 1000Mts of water....
It usually takes a few days to get set up and connected for the real show to begin...
