Good point Alan, shorting doesn't have to be actual selling of the asset. I am shorting the market already by renting, as I am in a position to gain by doing so and waiting for inflation and savings to increase and hopefully house prices in the area i want to stay the same or decrease.
A form of naked shorting I guess that does not harm anyone. In the uk, they had an index where you could go long or short on some sort of professionally valued property index, we don't have one of these in oz yet.
