    Sounds to me like the bloke still gets choice in enjoyment from his life...hence the crosswords, making his way to sit outside etc....ask the doctors to treat (the theme they apply to different levels of societal human importance) him the same as if there was a VIP in the bed...full intravenous drip...and every other care necessary to get him out of bed and back home and consciously enjoying life again.

    Pay full attention any of his behaviors toward toward simple free choice in his time spent.....when this wanes to very lettle it's psychological game over....and the rest follows or forces it sometimes.

    If the infection is cleared up what might be his physical life expectancy.

    I read nothing extreme in his treatment that would warrant his previously written directive/wishes to kick in...I dont trust those particular doctors if what I read is correct and the fuller version in particulars.
