Gas is about to become very important in that part of the world. The upgraded Olympic Dam mine will use about one third of all of South Australias power - so a nice gas powered plant set up in the region fueled by gas from the Cooper basin would fit nicely. I can't remember exactly the figure quoted for usage but it was something like 400mW round the clock.
