The person that ARES hunted down to Head their Australian Business is Teiki Benveniste who's previous role was with MQG as Lead Senior Investment Specialist.
This happened back in Feb 2020.
So how interesting that only 6 or so months later, ARES put a bid on AMP, a company everybody knows MQG have been circling for years.
If ARES and MQG have not been in cahoots from the very beginning, I would be extremely surprised. I reckon they agreed on who gets which slice of the AMP pie way before launching the bid.
My opinion only, based on information available to the public.
