interestingly I too have also been thinking of the possibility of same sneaky play here. And of course this is only an opinion.

MQG group approach ARES with this idea, ARES walk, SP gets smashed and MQG pick up on the cheap. Lots of speculation but with these type transactions, its not unfathomable. I haven't understood how an entire buyout of AMP for ARES could have worked, they had to be in cahoots with others before putting in the offer.

I don't believe for one second that ARES have approached MQG just recently, I feel that MQG and ARES have strategised from the start.

MQG want AMP Capital and AMP Bank, but perhaps MQG don't want all the units with AMP Capital, so they collaborate to not only get what they want but for a massive discount.

Now ARES have full access to records, it makes it easier to know how to slice and dice it up.

No matter what I think or feel, the SP is way oversold and the retailers are not the ones pushing and pulling it.

So all I see as an investor is an opportunity. Granted, not one for the fain hearted.
