Its the backwards approach that the majority of Australian investors take. They want a safe bet that banks profits and eventually pays divideds. If Uber was on the ASX, it would be valued at nothing and go broke quickly.
Savvy US investors want companies to raise a lot and spend it very quickly to grow fast and capture a large market share. Grow grow grow.. then start making massive profits when they cut back 'grow the business' costs in a few years, or be acquired by a much bigger player.
Australian investors just don't undersrand that notion. Its one of the reasons we have such a pissy little venture capital market here too, and no tech based billionaires either.
If you want to make money with a tech investment, do it overseas in the US, Israel, UK, or a few European countries.
