Check out an atlas, we are "down under". A closer look will show that there is no economic powerhouse nation south of 30 deg N, no nation below that line has a dense enough population to make EVs convenient. Most simply don't have the generation capacity to meet the extra demand.
If anyone thinks Toyota will stop making the Hilux and Cruiser on a whim, they may already own a bridge. No gov here will be able to force us to buy EVs and get reelected and there will always be cars to meet the demand.
