Hi Tyou, welcome to AGO and to HC.
I suspect that being berated for being a newbie to the stock-market and asking naive questions isn't helpful, nor will it inspire you to stay with investing in equities in the long-term. Everybody makes mistakes when they first start to put money into the market (and many get in because of a friend or relative's urging or inspiration, so your move is not unusual) and the vast majority, if not everybody, lose money overall in the first few years. However, the clever people look at losing money as a form of education - you can take all the courses in the world about trading on the stockmarket and never learn as well as having skin in the game. But then again, if you haven't sold your shares, you haven't actually lost any money yet. So if that's the case, and it sounds like it is, use the thought that you might lose money as an impetus to learn. And who knows, if you hold your parcel for the long-term, you might be pleasantly surprised.
Here is my reply to a similar question a day or so ago, plus another post you might find of value.

At this stage, know that HotCopper is a forum where there is as much mis-information as there is useful information. Question everything you read and remember that there is often an inverse relationship between the number of posts people make and their level of knowledge and wisdom (i.e. the wisest post the least), and success (i.e. the people making lots of money aren't posting much either), so don't think that because someone posts a lot they necessarily know a lot, or that what they have posted is correct, or that they are financially successful.
I hope this is the start of a long and successful trading/investing career for you. IMHO, patience will reward AGO holders.
Regards, GW
P.S. The post above by HotT appears to be on the wrong thread (it is about CDU), so until it is removed, ignore it. It has nothing to do with AGO. See, newbies make all sorts of mistakes!
