Abbott will be there for a few more months, but if he continues to remain negative, viz. saying No to everything the Labor government puts up, his days will be numbered.

According to past published opinion polls, the public had never warmed to him. Labor's inept handling of its election campaign strategy and efforts gave him a chance to win government but in the end the coalition failed to win a majority of seats to form government. It did well in Qld, but in the state that has the most House of Reps seats, New South wales, it failed to achieve a swing big enough to give him the few extra seats to give to majority of seats status.

Was Abbott the sole factor in the coalition not winning ? I don't think so. The coalition has shown itself not ready to be returned to government: for months prior to when the election was called, it was seemingly all talk and no credible policies. It appeared to be an Opposition good in saying what it would not do but failing to say what it would do or how it would do better than what the government was doing. Malcolm Fraser was right.
