Hi betterman
Trees ceased being big after settlement due to clearing and the re-growth promoted bushfires and so the day of the big mature trees decline started then
Many trees in Australia live from 100 to 10,000 years, then they are big
I saw a photo in the library of a Qld cedar where the stump was large enough for a 2 wheel dray to be driven onto the stump turned around and driven off.
Any new trees planted to replace the wanton destruction of the mature trees are usually just junk timber and never ever have the ability to grow big or old so the world is changed forever and it will never recover it's past glory.
