re: internet connectivity on boats? If you have LOS (line-of-sight) there is always the option of having wireless broadband on the 802.11b spectrum. Most capital cities and bigger regional areas have community based wireless networks operating. If you were to put up an antennae on your FlyBridge cruiser ;) and point it at a known access point in theory you could connect.
If someone else on the community network had ADSL privately you could come to a private agreement to share costs (not entirely legal...) There also may be private commercial wireless broadband operators in your area. try www.broadbandchoice.com.au
