I won't claim to be a professional with regards to manipulation, but I'll give my thoughts anyway.

With regards to manipulation on any given day, it kinda depends on who is behind it. Small manipulation is unlikely to push beyond crucial resistances/supports. I've made it pretty well known that manipulation is the last, as opposed to the first thing I jump to when the market moves against my expectations. Big manipulation is more powerful, but more obvious. Pump & Dumps, charts repeatedly moving against reasonable TA, etc.

I don't think there is any big manipulation happening with PEN. As such, I would bundle what manipulation there is (if there is) with the general noise of the stock market. As such, I'd put less emphasis on candlestick patterns (can be manipulated very easily), and put more on indicators, long standing trend lines, and chart patterns such as double tops/bottoms.
