If you are thinking WA I would say down south, Busselton is a reasonable size city and Geographe bay is pretty good and close to Margaret river and lots of great places within an hours drive.
Margaret river is expensive and gets packed out with terrorist, fine for a visit.
Lots of small medium country towns in the south west if Busselton is to big for you, bigger main inland you have Nannup, Bridgetown and Pemberton. Coast can be expensive depending what you want and can afford but there are smaller towns not far from the coast
I'm south of the river Perth, have not got much good to say about North of the river
