There was between 11 and 13% short for the whole of 2010 - the earliest covered by the ASIC report. Hasn't been that great a magnitude change in short percent since then really. I doubt that you will get the short covering rally you might be expecting. Some of the shorters were probably short at over $4.00 in 2008 - so I doubt they will be so fussed about a 20c move IMO. Vice versa adding a few shorts probably does not change much either. In a takeover there could be a jam however. Need to keep things in perspective IMO.
