AWB strangling competition: Futuris - 30 May 2003
Les Wozniczka, CEO of the Futuris Corporation, has accused AWB of acting against the interests of future competition. In a submission to the Australian Senate's rural and regional affairs committee, Wozniczka said that AWB was clearly concerned that the Government may decide to end its single-desk wheat trading authority, and was trying to gain control of any potential wheat exporting rivals. Wozniczka also accused AWB of failing to maximise returns for Australian wheat farmers. AWB MD, Andrew Lindberg, rejected Wozniczka's comments and denied that the trader had a plan to eliminate its Australian competitors.
