    I have been reading the various theories about alleged discrepancies between recorded gold holdings and actual gold holdings, and found myself wondering if it mattered all that much.

    How can all the gold in Fort Knox disappear and nobody missed it for almost forty years?

    If America has got along without it for all that time, why do they suddenly need it now?
