PhillW the latest projections for oil from the analysts is for oil to average $45 US for 2009. Not sure why people are getting bullish again on oil, it dropped nearly 13 percent last week with its rise based soley on speculators pushing up the price due to tension in the middle east. It now appears to be resuming its downward trend. Has to be on the demand side before anyone can get bullish.

Another factor is the US dollar, whilst the aussies dollar dropped this compensated for the drop in commodity prices, it now appears that the aussie dollar is clawing its way back against US and will do so further as the US prints money to spend its way out of trouble. This will further erode bhps profit.

Sentiment has also changed again, the markets are starting to fall again on bad news, you only have to look at the dow falling 4 out of the past 5 nights. I think people are starting to wake up to the reality that the next 6 months are going to be horrible to say the least. How much is factored into the share price is anyones guess.

Anywhos, I agree with lapdog that this company will come through in a better position than before. Still doesn't mean in the coming months it won't be affected along with the rest of the market. I have june penciled in as around the time I will go long on bhp as I'm hoping that will be the bottom of the market. Profit warnings are going to batter the market till then.


The production report and interim profit are going to be interesting to say the least.
