Hi Rae,
The 40 hours over a 30 day period only has to be satisfied for only one month of the financial year. You can't spread the 40 hours over, say, 3 months.
Be careful re: the 'gainfully employed' definition. You can't just buy a few acres and run a few sheep (for eg) at a loss, and expect to be able to pass the test.
