Nice to see the share price finally lift after spending well over a year in the doldrums.
I still think VAU can go much higher if gold stays above $5,000 as once the hedges roll off cashflow margins will double. It's good to see some brokers are starting to think the same with valuations now reaching $1 plus.
Whilst I agree it is madness to buy back shares at more than 50% they were sold at a year ago it may have the effect of scaring of the scalpers who take advantage of the multiple exchanges to arbitrage daily sales. According to a friend of mine who is a professional trader it's quite the profitable business.
I note that the company is presenting in Colorado next week. Given they have time to book flights and accommodation overseas it would be nice of them to provide guidance for this financial year.
We are now 72 days into the financial year or 20% of the way through. The company must know what it expects to spend on capex and exploration and what its production is expected to be. Withholding this sort of information so far into the year is what builds mistrust in management, and it's become a feature of Tonkins tenure to be lazy on releasing important information.
It would also be nice to get an update on drilling at Deflector. I note last year the company budgeted $20 million on exploration which was way too low in my opinion. Again, Tonkin and the board being far too lazy in my view. RMS has budgeted $100 million on exploration this financial year. It would be good for VAU to stop up its exploration, especially at Mt Monger and Deflector which are operating mines rather than Sugar Zone which is idle.
