For me it is. I consider myself to be informed on most matters and pay for subscriptions to several news outlet. I take with a grain of salt those things I have doubts about and adopt a wait and see approach.
Private sector succeeds or fails based on its success (in the media viewers/listeners/readers) and I've used Channel 10 as one example. Fairfax is another wit Channel 9 being able to buy them because of a weak share price of a media stable that was once well respected. Disclosure: I held Fairfax back in the 1990's but sold in disgust eventually.
When the State funds a media organisation that is breaking the law the something should be done.
