"If we are back to the ASX leading the way"....
It was never different, it was always that way, and it (ADR - American Depositary Receipt - 5 regular MSB shares in this case) is a financial instrument specifically designed that way, as a a tracking stock.
Where on earth did people get different ideas?
How many times does it need to be said a US ADR is - by definition - a tracking stock, an easy way for an American to hold a foreign stock, without complexity of Int. Trading Accounts, tax issues, etc.
US Close: (4.9/5) * Exch Rate at 4pm US ET (0.70664) = ............dada.....AUD 1.38
Yesterday ASX Close ......AUD 1.36.
Looks very close to me (because that's the whole point)
FGS, don't people know anything about Capital Markets? This has been raised maybe 10 times by me (and I think that's 9 times too many). I happen to be American, so I know this, and tried to be helpful, but EVERYBODY her was following the NAS IPO eagerly, and surely learned this, and if they didn't, well it was explained many times.
"it's a way of making hard-to-trade foreign stocks available to investors in the United States. Buying and selling ADRs lets you participate in foreign markets without having to deal with unfamiliar currencies, foreign taxes, and inconvenient per-share prices."
"Once they are created, ADR shares trade separately from the original shares, and often have slightly different values than the originals. However, ADR share values usually track with the original share values."

Separately, for the record, the trend would appear to be down.
