It’s probably not correct to say that the market never wanted it in the first place. You might say that the market didn’t know that it needed it. Home computers for example. You can’t do without them but before they became a reality, you didn’t know that.
With batteries, things are a little different. Fossil fuels, climate change, air pollution and population growth are factors that are causing a need for solutions. Battery technology is a natural result of this pressure.
It’s not hard to imagine a situation where diagnostics requires rapid improvement. An epidemic that kills quickly and runs rampant etc. Unfortunately, until then the movers and shakers are happy to muddle through and stick with old, but tried and true technology.
