Mike Demler is a senior analyst at The Linley Group and a senior editor at Microprocessor Report. He focuses on processors for autonomous driving and for the Internet of Things as well as processor IP cores. Since joining the company, he has authored dozens of articles and several book-length reports on these topics. He is frequently quoted in EE Times and other technical publications and has a popular Twitter account.
His diverse career spans nearly the breadth of the semiconductor industry, in both technical and business roles, from early-stage R&D to IC design, manufacturing, and software tools. Before joining The Linley Group in 2013, he worked as a semiconductor analyst focusing on mobile and wireless technology. He also served as a technical editor for EDN Magazine and editorial director for OpenSystemsMedia. He is the author of High-Speed Analog-to-Digital Conversion, an engineering textbook that has remained in print since 1991.
Mike has extensive engineering experience and is a named inventor on eight U.S. patents. He began his career as a product engineer at Texas Instruments, where he successfully solved test programs and identified the source of yield issues on what was then the largest silicon die that TI was attempting to manufacture. He later designed chips for TI calculators and worked on some of the industry's first CMOS ICs for telecom applications. After TI, Mike moved to General Electric, where he drove development of advanced process technology, CAD, and design libraries to address the needs of high-frequency signal processing. He then led the transfer of that technology to GE's Datel subsidiary, launching a line of high-speed analog-digital converters.
Mike's experience in business leadership started at Micro Networks (MNC), where he directed the creation of a fabless semiconductor business that launched MNC into new markets for video and radar signal processing. After developing a series of successful new business lines, he helped found EDA startup Antrim Design Systems, rising to Worldwide Director of Business Development, while forging partner relationships with companies that included Panasonic and STMicroelectronics. He later served as a strategic-marketing director at Cadence and a product-marketing manager for Synopsys. He holds a BSEE degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, an MSEE from Southern Methodist University, and an MBA from San Jose State University.
