MEO hits water, carrying out more tests
Thursday, 12 February 2009
PRELIMINARY analysis of wireline logs over MEO Australia’s Zeus-1 well off Western Australia have not been encouraging with two excellent quality sand packages interpreted to be water-bearing.
The Songa-Venus semi-submersible rig
The intervals in the primary target Legendre sandstone were intersected over a 143m gross interval and are separated by a 10m shale unit.
However, the company said there were anomalous intervals at the top of both sand packages that warrant further investigation.
MEO is proposing to carry out an MDT formation pressure and limited sampling program to confirm fluid content at the top of both sand intervals.
The company said gas recovered from interval would indicate potential reserves updip of the current well location.
The well, drilled to a total depth of 3642m by the Songa Venus semi-submersible drilling rig, was targeting about 15 trillion cubic feet of in-place gas in the Legendre Formation.
Partners in WA-361-P are MEO (35%), RDI (35%), Cue Exploration (15%) and Gascorp Australia (15%).
