What do those who follow the nuclear power industry think that the impact of the German announcement to abandon nuclear energy and to shut its 17 nuclear reactors by 2022 will be? (Any bets that this policy will be reversed in the next 11 years).
Also, what can be done to decrease the risk of a nuclear plant catastrophic mishap, at least in the eyes of a spooked public.
A suggestion:
The idea of building small nuclear power plants in a distributed power network does not appear to have gained much traction (see: http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf33.html and http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Toshiba's_Home_Nuclear_Fusion_Reactor). Economics is an obvious consideration, but I suspect that economies of scale may still apply if a large number of smaller power plants that are less complex than the larger versions are built.
