Yes, 582,that's how it SHOULD work.
But BHP is in no position to buy back shares while the RIO bid is active.
So you will have to see what happens to the SP if and when the bid is no longer a hinderance.
It may well be that by then the share price may have fallen to well below today's. And a buy back simply goes part or most of the way to restoring it to present levels,
Many unknowns in a volatile market.
I don't think we should be counting on a buyback to be the magic bullet.
After all, even the record profit and increased dividend did nothing for the share price, did it?
