Where to now for long term investors of Telstra, page-10302

I think its much more likely to floated rather than sold to an existing company.

Telstra probably couldn't afford to buy it, they certainly couldnt pay what it cost to build.

The Liberal party would be crucified for 1) Privatizing Telstra instead of managing it properly and making it like NBNCo, 2) Destroying NBNCo after ALP tried to recreate what Telstra should have been, 3) Selling the NBNCo they broke at a loss to the Telstra they privatized to recreate a privately run monopoly over an essential service. Its just not going to happen, Penn is a crazy person for entertaining the idea (and for other reasons)...

What might happen is Telstra is given an incentive by the government to separate Infraco so there is competition in the market when they privatise NBNCo, so they arent recreating a private monopoly, its likely the only way they would get away with it politically.

But i dont think there is any rational reason for an Australian Government to sell NBN in the current circumstances.
- Interest rates are low, so reducing government debt isnt an issue.
- Its starting a new phase of fibre upgrades, which will add value over the next 10 years or so.
- The longer NBNCo matures, the more likely they will get a higher price tag due to higher adoption, more financial stablity.
