The problem with using direct current is that you cannot transform the voltage levels and practically all electrical equipment and plant is design for A/C operation. Like it or not our grid needs such items as transformer - these only work on A/C. No: use of DC was abandoned in 1883 in the Edison v/s Tesla & Westinghouse electricity standard - like it or not A/C is what we use and the only practical answer for the grid
