I really dont think ACCC would allow them to merge, they only allowed Hutchison and Vodafone to merge to prevent them both failing. ACCC said they were unlikely to allow any more fixed line telco mergers after M2&Vocus, and Voda intends to be an RSP.
More generally they are both integrated telco's so it would lessen competition long term.
