Im guessing the poor instore service may not be Telstras fault as i thought all the Telstra shops were franchised out to the likes of Vita Group and others acting on Telstras part.
However the poor response to the connection side of things is disappointing, but again we dont know if that had also been farmed out to a third party installer.
The poor performance of the network is probably a combination of issues with nbn, government policy and Telstra.
I will disclose worked for Telstra for 14 years and was a manager in company owned Telstra Shops back in the 1990's, when nokia was huge, flip phones were still popular and internet in its infancy.
