I think the reason that people post about stocks that they don't own is because their understanding is that HotCopper is a forum for the discussing and debating of stocks - both positive as well as negative aspects of stocks, as opposed to a forum where only cheer-leading of stocks is allowed.
I know that when I own shares in a business, I prefer not to lose the value of my investment, so when people point out things that might affect the value of my investment, I prefer it to be better informed.
That way I will be able to reduce the investing mistakes I make.
Which I would have thought was the very rationale d'etre of this forum.
