Netgear make great routers, they seem to last long and have the least issues as all routers eventually require a reset. I use a nighthawk and have never looked back.
For gaming, 80% is about download/ upload speed. The rest is making sure your router can handle long gaming sessions, and capable of delivering low latency. So you want a good CPU and you'll want to make sure you know that it won't overheat.
